Creatures 1: Gen2 - Myles

Myles:

The latest edition to my little Albian crew is Myles, who will be the third last Norn hatched for this generation. That's right people, we're down to the last 3!

Although still a baby at the time of writing, Myles seems quite smart and independent. He seems to like music quite a bit, playing with both the piano and guitar. I've actually been experimenting a little to see if Norns are more likely to take up music as a past time if they're introduced to it before toys. So far Myles is the only one this seems to be working with.

I also suspect Myles has a bit of an adventurous streak, as he seems to have taken to pushing the vehicles around Albia quite a bit. Or maybe he just has an affinity with technology, who can really be sure?

Mutations:

Myles' mutations seem fairly minor, although there is one in his STIMULI that could have some small impact.

***** LOBES *****
120: 5 0 Emb B MutDup, Lobe #= 6 Cell body settings: nom=0, leak=24, rest=88, input=128
120: 5 0 Emb B MutDup, Lobe #= 6 Cell body settings: nom=0, leak=24, rest=80, input=128

A slight tweak in the rest state of this gene means it will return to it's default value slightly quicker.

***** RECEPTORS *****
320: 44 0 Sen B, Creature, Somatic, die of old age, chem=Ageing, thresh=5, nom=102, gain=255

The usual 'die of old age' gene.

***** REACTIONS *****
65: 8 0 Emb B MutDupCut, 1*Loneliness++ + 1*Pain => 1*Loneliness + 1*Punishment; half-life = 8
65: 8 0 Emb B MutDupCut, 1*Loneliness++ + 1* => 1*Loneliness + 1*Punishment; half-life = 8

Usually having an increase in Loneliness punishes a Norn. Personally I don't consider this something worth punishing over, so this mutation is either beneficial or detrimental depending how you view it. Myles will only be punished for feeling lonely when he is also in pain. Who knows, this might make him seek out the company of others when in pain?
It also has the ability to allow him to be a loner if he so chooses. It won't punish him for being lonely, but it also won't encourage the behaviour.

232: 41 0 Emb B MutDupCut, 2*Antigen6 + 1*Glucose => 1*Antibody6 + 3*Hotness; half-life = 80
232: 41 0 Emb B MutDupCut, 2*Antigen6 + 1*Glucose => 1*Antibody6 + 1*Hotness; half-life = 80

Slightly detrimental, this mutation will make Myles 3x hotter when infected with Antigen6.

*****STIMULI*****
108: 19 0 Emb B Mut, 'I am resting' causes sig=1 GS neu=255 int=0, Sensed even when asleep
=> 50*TirednessDecrease + 16*SleepinessIncrease + 16*BoredomIncrease + 0*
108: 19 0 Emb B Mut, 'I am resting' causes sig=0 GS neu=255 int=0, Sensed even when asleep
=> 50*TirednessDecrease + 16*SleepinessIncrease + 16*BoredomIncrease + 0*

This mutation is one that interests me greatly. The only difference here is the significance this gene has. As I understand it, that means Myles is more likely to pay attention to the benefits resting gives him. Hopefully this will make him more likely to want to sleep. So far he's proving to be a good sleeper, but that may just be coincidence.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two more eggs to go before I'll have to start choosing which Norns to raise into adulthood. Although I'm looking forward to starting the 3rd generation I've become quite attached to most of these Norns. Hopefully I can get some help in choosing which Norns will become breeding partners, and people will give the rest of them a good home.

  1. Aww, what a cute little guy Myles is! Very interesting about seeing whether instruments or toys are preferred by certain Norns based on when they are introduced to them. His mutations seem pretty minor, but a couple could work out to be beneficial!

    I know I'll be willing to offer an opinion on which Norns to keep for this generation. It's difficult to part with them, though... I know that all too well! I'll be following a similar path starting in the third generation. Just need to make it through my own second generation, which will take a decent amount of time. Hopefully once I limit the Norns I start with, each generation will go by in a fairly quick manner.

    Can't wait to meet the next two eggs!
