Creatures 1: Gen2 - Bonza

I really should post this tomorrow and pad out my CCSF Blogathon for an extra day, but Bonza is the last Gen2 Norn to be hatched and I'm excited to start raising some of these Norns to adulthood and preparing for Gen3.

Bonza:

It is rather unfortunate, but it looks like my final Norn won't be making it into the next generation. Bonza inherited his mother's mutation that makes it difficult for him to be rewarded for sleeping, and he struggles with it a bit.
As well as that poor Bonza has a rather nasty mutation that effects his SexDrive. Namely, that the SexDrive he receives naturally at puberty gets converted into Anger (although SexDrive in general doesn't, such as feeding him tomatoes).

Taking these two mutations into consideration, Bonza is still a pretty happy chap. Although he struggles with sleep (and thus doesn't have his instincts reinforced) he is happy most of the time and often has a big dopey grin on his face.

What I've found amazing is that he has taken to playing the guitar all the time, to the point where I've had trouble taking it off him. It turns out that the guitar COB reduces Anger when played, and Bonza uses it to calm himself. It's a great anger management device, and as a guitar player myself I think it's quite realistic. Bonza is certainly the artistic type!
Even in the presence of Redrum, Bonza hasn't taken to slapping just yet. Fingers crossed he'll continue to use his music as an outlet rather than turning to violence.

Bonza is the final child of Tony and Trista, and was born on the 5th of November, at 4:14 in the afternoon.

Mutations:

*****RECEPTORS*****
56: 13 0 Emb B MutDupCut, Creature, Drive Levels SexDrive, chem=Anger, thresh=0, nom=0, gain=255, features=Analogue
56: 13 0 Emb B MutDupCut, Creature, Drive Levels SexDrive, chem=SexDrive, thresh=0, nom=0, gain=255, features=Analogue

322: Die of old age

56: Here is the Anger mutation I wrote about above. As you can see it is a simple change from SexDrive to Anger chemical. Such a small change, but it really defines his personality.
322: The usual die of old age gene.

 *****REACTIONS*****
61: 5 1 Emb B MutDupCut, 1*HotnessIncrease + 1 => 1*Hotness + 1*Punishment; half-life=8

61: I can't quite figure out why this one has cropped up. The dDNA Analyzer claims it is a new gene, however it seems exactly the same in a hatchery Norn. A bug perhaps?

*****HALF-LIVES*****
1: 1 0 Emb B MutDup <226> 73
1: 1 0 Emb B MutDup <226> 72

1: I believe this changes the half-life of chemical 226 from 72 to 73. As far as I know this chemical doesn't do anything, and the change is so small as not to be noticed anyway.

*****INSTINCTS*****
136: 5 0 Emb BMutDupCut, Drive i/ps Tiredness + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) and I rest => 93*<048>
135: 5 0 Emb BMutDupCut, Drive i/ps Tiredness + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) and I rest => 93* Reward

136/135: And here is the gene I was really hoping wouldn't get passed on. Fortunately it looks like Myles and Maelstrom, Bonza's half brothers lucked out and missed this mutation. This one gives chemical 048, rather than reward for resting when tired, making it very hard to teach Bonza that resting is good for him. As far as I know chemical 048 doesn't do anything.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And so that's it. All the generation 2 eggs have been hatched and now comes the difficult decision of having to pick the 'best' Norns to continue the gene pool.
But before we move on to that, it's time to go back to Gen1 and do something I promised quite a while ago. Awards for the best Norns! My next post will detail which Norns bred the best and link the parents to their children.
Then I'll dedicate another post to figuring out which Gen2 Norns to continue on with. Yes, your input will be welcomed.

  1. The guitar bit is interesting. It seems like he has a lot of problems which is a pity because he is the first norn I have heard of that has a hobby.

  2. At least Bonza found a useful way to deal with his anger! I always like it when Norns figure this out for themselves. With gene 61, could this possible be a copy? It will show up as new, even if it is identical to a compared gene, so long as there is another one present. I've noticed that copies usually insert themselves after the original occurrence, so this should be easy to find in the Genetics Kit. Either that, or the D-DNA Analyzer went crazy!

    Can't wait to hear the results of the generation 1 Norns! And you know I'll have some input on which generation 2 Norns to continue with... Although whomever you decide to keep will be interesting!

  3. Aha! Good pick Jessica. You're right, gene 61 is a duplicate! Gene 62 appears identical.
    I don't think I've ever had that happen before. Bonza really has turned out to be an interesting Norn.
