Creatures 1: Gen2 - Difficult decisions

With the awards night out of the way it's time to move on to bigger and (hopefully) better things. Here we have a collection of 14 Norns, all in their child or youth stage.

Of these 14, only 8 will be able to progress to the next generation; 4 males and 4 females.

To make things interesting, currently we only have 4 females. This means that all of them should make it to the next generation, however I'm going to throw in a wild card. Two of them actually.
From the last feral run I did there are several Norns still left over, two of which are female. To make things more interesting, Beatrice and Tracey will be thrown into the mix. Hopefully this will leave us with a better chance of a stronger 3rd generation.

So here are the 16 Norns, in the order they were born.

 Here's a quick refresher on what I feel makes each Norn interesting, and will help us decide which Norns will be given the chance to produce the next generation.

1. Beatrice:
Mother: Lillai

Mutations: None. Aside from being adorable Beatrice is an ordinary Norn.




2. Tracey:
Mother: Tabby
Father: Tony

Mutations: 1.
252: Creature, Sensorimotor, limping, chem=Glycogen, thresh=0, nom=43, gain=255, features=Inverted Analogue

Aside from this Tracey has inherited a stack of Tabby's Forest Norn genes, including the LOBE mutation that gives her extra neurons.


3.Totem:

Mutations: None

Totem inherited a mass of genes from Tabby, making him a strong blend of Forest and Pixie Norn genes. He also has extra neurons.

4.Maramel:
Mother: Trista
Father: Heartly

Mutations: 3.

Maramel will have SexDriveIncrease converted into Crowdedness and Punishment.
Upon hearing creatures speak, Maramel will recieve additional LonelinessDecrease
When tired and resting Maramel will not receive reward.


5.Stephanie:
Mother: Pollen
Father: Tony

Mutations: None

Stephanie has a dollop of PMN genes, but other than that is an ordinary Norn with a bit of an adventurous streak.


6. Mayflur:
Mother: Lillai
Father: Heartly

Mutations: 2.

Gene 251 means Mayflur will be chronically tired, although with a value of 1 this won't be noticeable.
When sick with Antigen3 Mayflur will retain the Antibody3 slightly longer in her system.
She is also adorable. Yes, that counts.


7.Maelstrom:

Mutations: 2.

Maelstrom will be in chronic pain, although a nom of 1 will barely be noticeable.
Maelstrom will only receive reward for pulling objects when bored and in pain.
He also inherited a LOBE mutation in his Concept lobe. It reduces the max number of connections this lobe can make from 3 to 2.


8. Techie:

Father: Heartly

Mutations: None.
Like his half brothers, Techie inherited a lot of genes from Tabby and seems to have very low drives as a result. He also has extra neurons.



9. Trillo:

Mutations: 1.

This gene won't punish Trillo for being hungry until he hits adolescence.
He also has extra neurons.

Javas will receive reward for travelling to the left when he hears 'left' and is in pain.
He also holds the record for most carrots eaten in a single sitting (8).

Aside from inheriting the PMN genes, Lentil is an average Norn.

Causty mutation makes her very susceptible to Antigen3 illnesses, however I've had a Norn with a similar mutation previously that didn't appear effected by it. With what I've learned recently from Naturing::Nurturing I'm not sure how much damage this gene will do.

Myles will only receive punishment when lonely and in pain, rather than just being lonely.
When sick with Anitgen6, Myles will produce 3 times as much heat while recovering.
Resting is a more significant event for Myles.


15. Jupitor

Laying eggs would be quite a signficant event for Jupitor, if he had the capacity to lay them.

Instead of receiving SexDrive when reaching puberty, Bonza will become angry. He has some anger management issues, but he has taken up music as a way to calm himself.
Gene 135/136 makes it harder for Bonza to rest as he doesn't receive reward for doing so.

So there they all are. The Norns of Gen2. I already have a rough idea who's likely to make it to the breeding grounds, but I want to hear your opinions and I can be swayed. Let the competition begin!

  2. Well, naturally I have some opinions on the matter... Ha ha! Here are my selections and the reasons. Hopefully you'll have some other votes, too!

    Females
    TRACEY: Looks like she is the one of the few Norns with a Horse Norn head, and her mixture of normal and Forest Norn genes should help her out. Her mutation is minor, but interesting.
    MAYFLUR: She is adorable, and has some interesting mutations. Perhaps this is the start of a better reaction to antigen 3?
    CAUSTY: Adorable, again! Her antibody 3 mutations might hurt her, but I still think it's worth it to keep her in the population.
    BEATRICE: No mutations! She also has a different appearance, which will hopefully keep the gene pool somewhat diverse.

    Males
    BONZA: He might be at a disadvantage with a couple of his genes, but I think it will be interesting. He managed his anger already, so perhaps he'll continue to do so.
    TRILLO: What a cute little guy! His hunger mutation might hurt him a little, but this gene is altered to remove punishment in some of the newer breed genomes.
    LENTIL: Must keep the PMN appearance alive! He is adorable, but his lack of mutations also makes him pretty stable, from a genetic standpoint.
    JAVAS: Aww, the cuteness! His mutation is interesting, and perhaps this will make him more adventurous, since traveling to the right will get him far. And eating eight carrots at once deserves some sort of award!

  3. Bonza's mutation, rather than meaning he produces Anger in place of Sex Drive, instead means that when his Sex Drive is high he feels angry instead of sexy. It's one of the collection of receptors that enable the drive lobe to keep track of the drive chemicals.

    In terms of how that should affect him, he is still capable of learning from both Anger and Sex Drive changes, but what he learns from one will be applied to the other because he can't tell which of those two he's feeling. Since he's more likely to have felt angry than sexy in childhood, upon entering puberty he would probably slap when he's feeling sexy. Over time, he may learn to kisspop instead, in which case he'll kisspop when angry too!

  4. Hey Ettina, thanks for the post. An interesting analysis of Bonza's mutation. I'll keep a close eye on him once he's in adulthood and interacting with the other Norns and see how he behaves.
