Well the CCSF has drawn to a close for another year. Just in case you thought day 14 was the end of it though, can I encourage you to take one last look at the website. I think it'll be worth your while ;)
I also have another release to make, even if it is a little late. I know from personal experience how annoying it is to have stories come out in little bits and bites, so now that I've padded out my CCSF blogathon entries, I'm releasing the completed chapters of my Creatures stories for all to read.
I've made part 1 (Creatures 1: As life began) and part 2 (Creatures 2: The restoration of Albia) available to download from my website.
At the moment I'm still keeping a lid on part 3 (Creatures 2: The great Grendel rebellion) and the epilogue (The Shee Chronicles) as they're both unfinished and I have finally started writing them again. That said if people really want to read them and don't mind that they're incomplete I'll make those available too.
The two parts are in '.doc' format and can be downloaded here:
Creatures 1: As life began
Creatures 2: The restoration of Albia
Also check out the new page I added to the blog where you can download a copy of the wallpaper I made for the CCSF.
Enjoy! Oh, and if you do read them, let me know what you think ;)

Creatures 1: Gen2 problems
Been a little tied down with work the last couple of days, but I've finally got on top of things enough to start raising the Gen2 Norns up to adulthood and get moving with the third.
Unfortunately before I could even start I've hit a bit of a snag. Hopefully it will work itself out, but I wanted to share it with you just in case something bad happens.
I'm missing a couple of Norns. Specifically: Bonza, Jupitor and Myles. For the life of me I can't find them. Even doing a search of the C: drive doesn't bring them up. I was getting ready to re-hatch them via the Genetics Kit and raise them again when I found them...I think???
This image will probably help explain things.
As you can see, Bonza, Jupitor and Myles are missing from my Creatures folder. (Beatrice and Tracey are also missing, but I was always going to need to use the Genetics Kit to resurrect them). Amazingly though, you can see Bonza in the import section on the left. Jupitor and Myles are also hidden in there. Nowhere else on my computer can I find these files except through the Creatures interface.
My plan is to import them again, then hopefully export them to another location so I can make backup copies of them in case anything goes wrong. Honestly though, I don't know what this problem is so I can't promise they're going to make it. I'm about to go and test my theory right now, so here's hoping...
EDIT:
Well thankfully the problem has been solved. Importing then exporting the Norns allowed me to get around the missing files. Although I did need to save them to the desktop, as saving them into the Creatures directory still wouldn't show them correctly. Point is I've now got backups of all the Norns for this generation. Next post I'll announce who will be participating in this generations 'breed off' and allowing people to download any of the Norns who didn't make it.

Creatures 1: As life began
Chapter 5 is a nice long chapter. What can I say, writing from the perspective of the bad guys is so much more fun :D
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHAPTER
#5 (Thorkil)
I woke with
a start. It was the same dream that had been affecting me for the
last four sleeps. They were about the female who had been born just
after me, Ivy.
In these
dreams we were together on what seemed like the highest peak in all
of Albia. I could see for what appeared to be forever.
“One
day we shall rule it all” Ivy whispered into my ear.
“Yes”
I said, “One day we shall rule it together”.
I reached
out and touched her on the cheek, letting the thrill of feeling
another living creature pass through me. “You and me” I added
quietly.
She reached
out to touch me back and we fell into each other’s arms and…
NO! What
was I thinking? I didn’t feel those pathetic feelings. Only Norns
did. No, she probably just played a part in my destiny. I often had
dreams about my future. This was probably one of those dreams. The
reason for her appearing in my dreams and being so tender with me
would reveal itself within time.
I focused
my mind on the real world. The Queen had given birth to many other
Grendels now. We were multiplying at incredible speeds. It was tiring
the Queen out incredibly, but she knew what was the right thing to
do. The more of us there were to fight the better.
I brought
my mind back to the current morning. It was a good thing my dreams
had woken me early. Now I would be ready for the fight this morning.
It’s hard to believe some fools think they were better at my job! I
had already killed two others. The Queen wasn’t particularly
thrilled with Grendels killing other Grendels. After all we needed
all the able bodies we could get our claws on. But all the same she
knew we needed to fight to ready ourselves for the coming battles.
The
previous two I had killed had been easier than taking cheese from
Norns. But this one bothered me. He was larger than I was and his
poison was stronger than mine was. That’s why he was named Spore.
Still, his poison was made for Norns. Mine was made for all species.
Plus I had my secret weapon.
I stopped
in the middle of town and looked around. It was amazing how much we
had managed to build in the very little time we had had. I had lost
count of the days I had been out of my egg, but I knew that what we
had achieved would be remember for a long time to come.
The
battlefield was in front of me. It wasn’t much of a battlefield,
just a bit of flat ground surrounded by a few trees and shrubs. To my
left was Speech Rock where we held our meetings. The rock we had
found had to be carted quite a distance and due to its size it took
three Grendels to move it.
The Queens
chamber was to the right and up the lift. The Queens chamber was
where most of our building efforts had gone into. We had built her a
Chamber up in the treetops where it was thought she would be safest.
The slabs of wood we needed had to be found or trees needed to be cut
down. Then we had to fasten them all together by cutting holes into
the wood and fitting it all together. Considering we had little
guidance to our building it was quite impressive.
I walked
over to the battlefield. The fight was to start later in the morning.
I had plenty of time to do what I wished. I decided I would pay a
visit to the Queen. There was no doubting I was one of her favorites.
Although she had never spoken it out loud, every Grendel knew that my
destiny was the greatest of anyone in our small village. As far as I
knew no one else received visions from the Queen. Of course I had
never asked her as to whether she let anyone know about our past, but
something inside me always told me that I was the only one. Perhaps
it had something to do with the others intellect. Although the
Grendels had some intelligence, there was no denying that most of
them were as bright as the bottom of a muddy puddle. However, all of
the Grendels were extremely strong, so perhaps the Queen thought is
was worth sacrificing some brains for strength.
Ivy and
Claw were the only others who I could manage to get a decent
conversation out of.
Claw and
Hoof were my younger brothers, although Hoof was about as brainy as
most of the other Grendels. More idiotic in some ways than most, as
it was his belief that we had no idea as to who the Norns were, only
what the Queen had told us. Claw and myself saw these ideals as
treason, and therefore forced him to keep his mouth shut in public
areas. As thick as he was, I didn’t want to see him destroyed
because of it.
I often
wondered how the Queen decided who was brother or sister to whom. All
I knew was that Hoof and Claw were my brothers, while Ivy was not my
sister. It was as the Queen had told us, and that was what we
believed. Somehow, unbeknown to us, we were of the same blood.
I puzzled
over these things as I approached the Queens chambers. My thoughts
were broken when I reached the ladder leading up to the treetops.
“Wakeup
you imbeciles!” I yelled at the two sleeping Grendels. The two
Grendels jumped to attention, quivering in their scales. I couldn’t
truly blame them. Although it had never been spoken it was well known
I could bestow death upon whomever I willed. So far I had only made
examples of people, and that was enough to keep them in line. “What
are you fools doing asleep!” I raged, “What would you have done
if something had happened to the Queen?”
The two
Grendels stood there in dumb silence.
“Well?”
I demanded, enjoying their terror. I knew that I was just blowing off
some stress; I wasn’t really going to do anything to them. They
however did now know this.
“Well
you see it’s like this” began one of the Grendels. Thrhout was
his name. “It was the middle of the night and we were getting very
sleepy”. The Grendel beside him nodded his head vigorously in
agreement. I rolled my eyes. I already knew the way most Grendels
reasoned; to say it was pathetically would have been a major
understatement.
“And
we were on the verge of going to sleep” he continued, completely
unaware of the idiot beside him, “And we was trying to stay awake
really hard and then we came to a really funny thought” he said
with a massive grin.
Oh boy,
here it comes I thought.
‘We
realized, that if we were so sleepy, then our enemies would be really
sleepy too. So if we were gunna fall asleep, then our enemies were
probably already asleep. So we thought that if our enemies were
asleep, then they wouldn’t be able to hurt the Queen, and then we
could get some rest” he finished with a dopey smile.
I smiled to
myself. For Grendel reasoning he had done a mighty fine job. I walked
slowly over to a nearby bush and pulled out a groggy animal. The poor
thing was just settling down to sleep after being up all night. I
knew that this species was nocturnal and I hoped that the two guards
knew as well.
“You
see this”, I said holding up the struggling creature.
They both
nodded profusely. “Good. Now did you know that this creature sleeps
in the daytime, and stays awake for most of the night?”
One of the
Grendels nodded in agreement while the other shook his head. I rolled
my eyes again.
“Okay
Thrhout, well it does. Now does it seem possible, that maybe, just
maybe, if this creature sleeps in the day and stays awake during the
night, that there might be other creatures out there who do the same,
and therefore would pose a threat to the Queen?”
“Never
thought of that” mumbled Thrhout.
“Of
course you didn’t” I muttered.
“So
I guess that means that we should stay awake during the night from
now on” said the other Grendel sadly.
“I’m
afraid so” I said, mocking his babyish tone. I moved forward to get
to the ladder the two Grendels were guarding. They both moved closer
together to stop me.
“What
business do you have with the Queen?” Thrhout asked me.
I gave him
an incredulous stare. I had issued an order that the Grendels who
were on duty were to ask anyone who wanted to enter the Queen’s
chambers what their business was. I had wanted to make sure no one
bothered the Queen without good reason to. Although I had never
thought anyone would question my motives.
“Thrhout”
I said.
“Yes
Thorkil?”
“Get
out of my way before I have you thrown in the sea halfway between
here and the distant island.
“Yes
Thorkil” he muttered backing out of my way.
I pushed
past the two Grendels, deliberately brushing them as I went just so I
could feel them shiver as they stepped back.
I climbed
up the ladder into the treetops in quite a temper. The Queen felt my
presents and welcomed me in.
I tried to
calm myself for the Queen’s sake; there was no need to get her
involved in a petty little dispute such as guard duty.
she claimed in her calming voice.
I smiled
despite myself. The Queen always had a way of making me feel better.
“No”
I answered truthfully; there was no point in keeping secrets from the
Queen.
“I
know,” I said quietly with a faint smile. But I wasn’t so sure.
What about my dreams of Ivy?
I felt one
of her mind tendrils reach out to me and before I could think I was
thrown into another vision of the past.
I was once
again in the body of the ruthless Grendel who I was beginning to
think of as one of my forefathers. Which there was a very good chance
he was. I was leering over my latest victim. He was a very large
Grendel. He was probably slightly bigger than I was, although by the
pitiful stance he was in he had come of second best in a fight
despite his size. Claw marks riddled his body; his right eye was no
longer where it should have been.
He cowered
below me as I stood above him, a giant and unconquerable beast.
“Don’t…spare
me,” he croaked out through the face that was coated with oozing
blood.
“Oh
don’t worry,” I said quietly and confidently, “I won’t spare
you”.
I saw his
one good eye open wide with fear.
“After
what you tried to do!” I said, this time allowing my rage to build,
“What right do you have to life?”
I let him
babble for a few seconds, desperately trying to find an answer that
he knew wasn’t there. I then took a menacing step towards him,
deliberately making it dramatic so he could see what was coming. I
gave a mix between a grunt and a sigh out of my nose as if I were a
wild animal.
“And
so you end” I snarled quietly before swinging my arm back and…
The vision
blurred and I returned to the normal world.
“He
may have been almighty,” I said quietly, “But in the end even he
was defeated wasn’t he”.
“Except
you,” I said with a laugh. The Queen gave a laugh that sounded like
heavy rain on an outcrop of rocks, quite pleasant once you got used
to it.
I bowed my
head in a sign of respect. “I shall follow you to the end” I said
sincerely.
said the Queen softly, .
I climbed
down the ladder feeling pretty good about myself. I was born to rule
Albia; there was none who could get in my way. My infatuation with
Ivy was nothing more than mere Nornplay. I would no longer think of
her other than as another able body.
I began to
make my way to the battleground. As I passed by Speech Rock several
Grendels called out words of encouragement to me. The majority of the
Grendels were still on my side. I felt my chest swell with pride at
the thought of my species. We truly had come a long way in a very
short period. It was almost sad that after today there would be one
less of us to enjoy the aftermath.
Small
groups of Grendels were beginning to join themselves around the
battlefield, all of the trying to anticipate where they would get the
best view of the action. I was watching them, allowing the pride of
my people swell inside me when out of the shadows Spore appeared.
We glared
at each other for a few seconds. Spore had been born not long after
myself but despite our age difference he was still a claw length
taller than me. For some strange reason his eyes didn’t appear to
have any pupils. Unlike most Grendels who had red eyes and black
pupils, Spore’s eyes were entirely red. It was his height and his
eyes that seemed to evoke fear into all other animals and not just
the Grendels. Often when I had seen Spore walking around town there
were many small animals that would go into hiding at the site of him.
The reason for this is probably because there had been more than one
occasion when Spore had murdered animals with his bare hands. This
wasn’t unusual among Grendels, but most of them killed animals for
food or just simply because they were irritating. Spore had been
known to kill simply for the pleasure of it. This made even me sick.
It was one thing to kill Norns without mercy; they were our sworn
enemies. It was built into our instincts to go Norn hunting.
It was for
these insidious reasons that Spore emanated a feeling of fear among
the Grendels. It was probably the same reason that had brought him to
challenge me. Although using fear to control people was a magnificent
implement to use if the occasion called for it, and there was the odd
soul who would benefit from being controlled I preferred to have the
Grendels work as a team. If Spore were to overthrow me and come to
power he would rule our tribe as a tyrant and a dictator.
“This
is the day your short reign ends”, Spore snarled.
I plucked
up my courage and stuck out my chest in a defiant way. “I am a born
leader”, I replied, “Sometimes it takes more than muscle to win a
fight. Maybe you’ll learn that today, not that you will have a
chance to use that knowledge in the future”.
His eyes
narrowed in hatred. With one last snarl he spun around and walked
off. Most likely to say a farewell to his friends, the thought made
me laugh. I walked off to choose my weapon. Most people know how a
Grendel fight works but if you don’t here’s how. Each fighter
chooses an object to fight with. It can be a stick, rock or anything
else. It could even be a flower if you thought it would do you any
good. There are plenty of Grendels who wont get near a flower if they
can prevent it.
I preferred
to go without a weapon. I relied on my own strength and cunning. I
didn’t believe I should need a weapon to be able to defeat any of
the Grendels. Both Claw and Ivy chastised me for it, saying I should
use something, even if it were just some sort of shield. I stuck to
my beliefs however, and there were many who revered me for it.
Both Spore
and I went to talk to our closest friends and warm up. I went over to
Ivy and my brother, Claw. I was feeling pretty proud of myself for
glaring down at Spore and this confident feeling only rose at the
smile Ivy gave me… I mean the greeting I received from my friends.
“Where’s
Hoof?” I asked as a gruff greeting.
“He’s
watching over the Queen,” replied Claw. I met his eyes as he said
this and I saw the visible pain it caused him to think about Hoof.
Another of Hoof’s mad beliefs was that we shouldn’t fight amongst
ourselves. Unlike the Queen’s belief that we needed all the able
bodies we could get our hands on, Hoof thought it was just morally
wrong to kill our own species. The idiot. As well as this idiotic
belief I had noticed that Hoof seemed to eat less meat than other
Grendels. He seemed to satisfy himself with foods more like honey or
cheese. Perhaps he thought that killing other species was also wrong.
Bloody Nornlover.
“This
fight won’t be as easy as the last two were Thorkil,” said Claw.
“But
we know you can win,” said Ivy, “It’s your destiny to rule
Albia, one fool can’t stand in your way”.
I felt
myself swell with pride at Ivy’s comment. “Good to see some
people know what I’m capable of,” I grunted, trying to sound
tough.
“I
trust the Queen,” answered Ivy, “If she believes that you are the
link to ruling Albia then I believe you are too”.
“In
a few minutes I will prove to you that you needn’t just trust in
the Queen. I’ll show you that what she believes is real,” I said
with zeal.
Ivy smiled
sweetly at my eagerness. Then suddenly her expression changed to one
of confusion and sadness. “I wonder what possessed Spore and the
others to challenge you?” she wondered out loud.
“Birth
defects?” suggested Claw.
“Just
plain stupid?” I added.
Ivy laughed
before growing serious again. “No seriously. I mean if the Queen
has the same influence on us as she does on the other Grendels, then
why is it that there are some among us who would go against her
will?”
I pondered
this for a while. The thought had never occurred to me. It was one of
the many things I liked about Ivy. She tended to think about things
other Grendels wouldn’t. Perhaps in that way she was like Hoof,
however Ivy’s faith in what we were doing had never failed. I often
wished there were more Grendels like her. As smart as Claw was it
just wasn’t the same as talking to Ivy.
“The
Queen knows a lot more than we do. There’s probably a reason behind
everything that has happened” I said slowly.
“Perhaps”
said Ivy, but I could see it still troubled her.
Claw gave
me a solid thump on the shoulder, a sign of friendship among
Grendels. “And then again maybe he’s just thick in the head” he
said with a laugh. I laughed along with him. Go get that insidious
dope” he snarled. “Good luck”, said Ivy, giving me a playful
pat on the cheek. My heart gave a small jump. I quickly turned and
walked onto the battlefield so no one would see the dopey look that
crossed my face. I observed the battlefield to distract my mind
despite the obvious fact I had battled on the same field many times
before. The field was mostly open but here and there trees were
scattered.
Grunt was
to umpire the match. He had taken a special interest in umpiring
fights. Not that there is much to umpire. All you have to do is say
which one person can no longer keep going. Still you do get a close
view of the action.
As I was
observing the field he came up to me. “Nice day for it” he mused.
“Splendid”
I said sarcastically. I didn’t particularly like Grunt all that
much. It may have had something to do with his work ethics. While
most of the other Grendels went about their daily routines Grunt was
into some less productive hobbies. He was, as he liked to call it, a
professional gambler. Simply put he found any activity he could, and
wagered with other Grendels about the outcomes. Whether it be how
many times he could hit a target with rocks, to the winner of a
Grendel fight, Grunt would find a way to wager on it.
I didn’t
particularly like the way my personal struggles could fill his belly.
That and the fact his gambling turned him from his more important
jobs.
“So,
is there anything an umpire should know about?” he asked
innocently.
“Such
as?” I asked while I watched Spore take a sharp stick from a pile
of weapons.
“Oh,
just any sort of impeding injury that most of the Grendels don’t
know about”.
I have him
a disgusted look. “I could certainly organize some sort of impeding
injury,” I growled.
He backed
off quickly. I gave a chuckle to myself as he scuttled away. As I
went to get my own weapon I saw he had gone over to talk to Spore.
They stood for a moment before Spore took a swipe at him and he ran
off once again. I laughed out loud. If nothing else Spore had some
good qualities.
Grunt
got ready to start the fight. He called us both over to the center of
the field. All the other Grendels crowded around the outskirts of the
battlefield. They closed ranks until we had about ten square metres
to move in.
Spore and I
eyed each other off menacingly.
Grunt
sucked in plenty of air. “BBUUURPPP” he went. A great cheer went
up from the Grendels gathered.
The fight
had started.
Grunt
wasted no time and charged at me, stick raised. I had just enough
time to see the end of it had been sharpened into a deadly point. I
dodged to one side. The weapon may have been deadly, but Spore was
slow in wielding it.
He circled
around and came at me again. This time I was ready for him. I ducked
under the spear, a move I generally wouldn’t have tried, but with
Spore being so large and inexperienced with his choice of weapon it
paid off. As I ducked I spun myself around and delivered a glancing
blow to his gut, partially winding him.
He
staggered under the weight of my attack and spun around to face me
more slowly. I was tempted to take him while his back was turned and
end the pitiful display quickly but some sense of honour made me hold
my attack. The Grendels were expecting a good fight, and Grunt had to
earn his payment.
Spore
charged at me again, this time raising the stick above his head and
using it as a club. I grabbed it in mid air and used it to throw him
to the ground. I swung him round hard enough that he released the
stick and slammed into the ground sending a spray of dust flying.
The
Grendels have a cheer as I raised the stick above my head
triumphantly. I waited until Spore looked back at me before snapping
it over my knee.
Spore
lifted himself to his feet with a growl. We started circling each
other, giving out the occasional punch or kick. We both landed a few
glancing blows, nothing that could be shaken off with adrenaline.
Suddenly Spore launched forward, catching me off balance and his
clawed foot lashed out at my shin. The attack wasn’t strong, but it
surprised me enough to bring me to my knee. Seeing my vulnerability
he stepped forward and smashed his clenched fist under my chin,
sending me sprawling to the ground. I was lying on my back as he
charged at me again. He raised a leg and prepared to bring it down
into my stomach. I could see his claws were pointed downwards at me.
I didn’t like to fight dirty, but the time was desperate.
I took a
handful of dry dirt from the ground and tossed it into Spore’s
face. His temporary blindness gave me the opportunity to roll away
from him as his claws come down. They landed inches from where I had
been lying, leaving small holes in the ground.
I rolled a
few feet away and jumped up. In front of me was a piece of the broken
stick Spore had been using. I picked it up just as Spore finished
wiping his eyes clean from dirt. I threw the stick with all my might.
He watched as it stuck itself into the ground several feet behind
him. He gave a laugh. “You’ll need to be more accurate than…”
His head
snapped back as I delivered a devastating blow to it. The stick had
been nothing more than a distraction, a way to get him to turn his
eyes behind him.
I raised my
fist over my head. THWACK! Spore had recovered from my punch faster
than I had thought he would. He had hit me in the stomach and winded
me. I stepped back gasping for air. Red spots were flashing in my
eyes. As the spots cleared I saw Spore coming at me with the broken
stick. He lifted it high above his head. I pulled away from him but
it only resulted in my back being exposed. The stick collided with my
back, the end of it hitting me in the back of the head. The dots
appeared again, and then my whole vision went red and slowly faded to
black.
* * *
I must have
fainted for a few seconds. The first thing I noticed was I had a
splitting headache. The next thing I noticed was I was still on the
battlefield and Spore was standing over me laughing.
“So
Thorkil” he said, loud enough for everyone to hear, “It is my
hand that you die at”. He kicked me in the side. I heard myself cry
out as I rolled over onto my stomach. The red dots were as blurry as
the rest of my vision. Have to concentrate... think...
But it was
no use I was fading...fading...
Then
suddenly I know what to do. I pointed the palm of my hand at the tree
a few metres in front of me. I fired a small pin into the tree; it
was so small no one would notice. That was my secret weapon. No other
possessed the power to shoot their poison.
“Yes
Thorkil”, crowed Spore, “Beg for mercy, I want to see you
squirm”.
“In
your dreams NORN LOVER” I cried as I fired another pin. It hit the
pin in the tree and ricocheted off it and flew behind me. I heard a
yelp of pain (Spore) and grinned to myself. I jumped to my feet.
Spores cried of pain had given me new strength. I spun around to see
Spore clutching his face. I could smell blood. Ha
I though, right in the eye.
I lowered my head and charged. I hit him in the stomach. He made an
“OOF” sound as I knocked the wind out of him. I hit him again and
he went down, never to get up again. For a split second I almost felt
sorry for him. But then the power of my birthright kicked in.
“Well
Spore, looks like the tides have turned,” I said, “I told you the
smartest wins”.
“You
proved me wrong,” he said, trying to sit up. He was still clutching
at his wounded eye. “You really are our leader, you are meant to
rule Albia”.
I placed my
hand to his forehead.
“Pity
you won’t be here to see it,” I muttered. He gave a small gasp as
I fired a pin strait into his brain.
“Goodbye
Spore” I muttered, “Parting is such sweet sorrow”.
* * *
We
celebrated that night. Drink and food was plentiful. But this night
wasn’t going to be all fun. I could feel it. Just as I’d expected
Claw came running.
“What
is it Claw?” I mumbled, more than slightly drunk.
He
placed his hands on his knees and through his puffing said, “It’s
the Queen”.
I
was on my feet immediately and running to the queen’s chambers with
Claw a few feet behind me.
“What
happened?” I called.
“She
nearly collapsed, now she just keeps saying she’s hungry” he
called back. We reached the tree where the queen hangs. I dropped to
one knee and bowed slightly.
“Your
majesty” I said as I got to my feet, “What is the problem?”
“Hungry…need…”
“Yes,
what do you need my queen?” I asked.
“Need
Norns,” she answered. Then her body sagged as she fainted.
“She’s
been bibbling for a while now,” said Claw sadly, “She seems to be
confused about her problem and our mission”.
“She’s
not confused,” I said.
“You
mean?”
“Yes”
I said, “Tomorrow we go Norn hunting”.

Creatures 1: As life began
CHAPTER #2 (?)
I was half an hour old by now and every second my power was growing. The Queen, my mother, had now given birth to two other siblings, one male one female. They were yet to be named. I on the other hand, now had a name. It was a name that would terrorize Albia. If the Norns lived after my reign of terror they would still tell my story for generations to come.
My body was already becoming strong and able. It wouldn’t be too long before I had as good a body as the one I continually inhabited in my visions. And I was only starting to near half my potential growth. I could very easily be twice the size of the original terror of Albia.
Once again I felt the Queen’s mind reach out to mine. She was weak from the birth of my latest two siblings, but she was still willing to try and teach me in the hope that I would learn from her experience.
Her mind entwined with mine and for a brief moment our minds became one. For a second I could see and feel the entire world as she did. This was always a side effect of her showing me the past. Usually it only lasted for a second or so, depending on how long it took her to bring up the memories of past minds. But this time her mind was open to me for longer than usual. It took me a couple of seconds to realize what was going on. She had deliberately left her mind open to me. Before, she had always shown me the past through others eyes, from fallen heroes and others. This time she was going to let me see the past as she had seen it.
It was then that I realized our minds were still separate. We could see each other’s minds but as of yet we hadn’t actually become one person.
I focused my mind and drifted slowly towards her. It is impossible to explain how her mind looked. It is perhaps even harder to explain how my mind looked. Because unlike in the physical world where you can only look through your own eyes to see what is around you, in the spirit world I could see myself and everything around. I was no longer just a part of myself but also a part of everything around me, at least to some degree.
From what my mind could decipher from the spirit world I could tell that the Queen’s mind wasn’t alone. At first glance all I could see was her, but as I looked deeper I could see that there were many others. I burrowed into her mind, letting her past experience become mine.
Instantly I learned that the Queen wasn’t one person. There were many minds infused to make one. I burrowed deeper and I found that the Queen had died many times. She was hundreds of years aged and yet only a couple of weeks old.
There had been several Queens over the years. The current Queen, my mother was the tenth Queen to live on Albia’s surface. Every time the Queen was about to die she laid an egg for the next Queen to hatch from. She placed all her memories into the new Queen’s mind and therefore preserved her knowledge for future generations.
It was impossible to tell where one mind ended and one mind started. My mind brushed over all the minds that made up the Queen, looking for where one became the other. I couldn’t find any chink in the minds so I went back and tried again.
Once again I failed to find anything by just dipping over the surface of her mind. I went back one more time and this time I sunk into the depths of the Queen’s mind looking for answers. This time I found something. I couldn’t really say that I had found where the minds where different; they still seemed to be the same mind. But this time I did discover when each previous Queen had died.
These parts of the mind were almost impossible to explain. As I went through each second where each Queen had died through to when the next Queen had been born I found a sort of hole. An emptiness or blackness where nothing seemed to exist and yet there was still something there. I went over these images again and again and again. Faster and faster the pictures of the past began to swim through my mind. Sucking me into their depth until I could no longer feel my own mind. I was in a vortex, half-asleep yet still completely functional. You know that place where you aren’t quite asleep; you are free to witness all that goes on around you, even allowed to think for yourself, but you are incapable of controlling what you think or where your thoughts take you. That was the place I had entered. I could no longer control my own thoughts, although they were still my own.
These images went around and around in my head, slowly killing off my own sense of being.
“The Shee will be mine” the Grendel murmured, “I will take her for myself and she will beg for mercy before the end”.
“Calm yourself” the Queen whispered in her voice that could be heard beyond the ability of the ears. “She will get what she is meant to get. And only time shall tell what that is”.
“But I want to take her now!”
The vision blurred, only to take me to another, completely different time and place.
“Kill him,” the Grendel growled slowly and deliberately. The Grendel that spoke was the one who’s body I usually inhabited. This time though I was an onlooker to his evil. As I looked up at him I could feel his evil flowing from him, and I knew that one day I would be just like him.
The creature whose body I held assailed the helpless victim that I had been told to dispose of. The flesh tore beneath my solid hands and claws. The screaming thrill of cutting open that which was still living was pumping through me. The pale creature under me screamed and struggle, trying to pry me off him even as I reached into his open chest to tear out what little remained of his life.
I tore into him, reaching into his insides to destroy him. Out of nowhere he struck at me. Out of nothing but shock I jumped backwards, letting him sit up slightly.
He slowly looked down at himself. I could see the fear in his eyes as he saw the hole in his chest. He looked up at me and I knew he knew he would die. There was also something more in his eyes, but the delightful glee ripped into me again and I went to lunge at him. At the last second he reached into his robes and took out the sharpest of daggers. It was then that I knew what I had seen in his eyes. He knew he was destined to die, and he also knew that he would take me down at the same time.
I felt the dagger rent into my skin, breaking the thick hide that had served me so well in the past. This time my armored skin was no use. The dagger dug through the flesh and into my heart, and then I felt no more.
The music was great. It attacked my very soul it was so incredible. I couldn’t tell if what I was hearing was beautiful or evil, but whatever it was it burned into me, sucking at my life force until I felt drained of myself.
I heard a voice call. It was the Queen. .
Slowly I awoke from my trance like state. The Queens mind was still there with me, but seeing that she had brought me back from the dreaming world she became silent again, letting me contemplate on what I had just witnessed.
I grabbed a bird from one of the surrounding bushes. I held the critter for a few seconds before reaching out and breaking its neck. I threw the head away and swallowed the rest in one bite. I then fell into a deep sleep, thinking of the horrors that awaited my enemies.
CHAPTER #3 (Tiggy)
As soon as I awoke I had the same feeling as I’d had when I had come out of my egg. Not quite as strong but it was there all the same. Luckily I knew how to deal with this problem. I looked around myself but I couldn’t see what I wanted. It was amazing how everything was still so bright and colourful. I looked up and saw the Hand. It floated down to me and sat in front of my face. “Tiggy food”, I said. The Hand gave me a small tickle and floated off. I followed It with my eyes. It floated a few metres and then stopped and started to land. As It landed I saw ten of so of the pointy orange food. I quickly forgot that I suddenly knew my own name without being given one, and hurried over to get the food. As I munched away on my food the Hand went away for a few seconds. When It returned It was carrying a strange new object in It’s ‘Hand’. It appeared to be an oval with a stick through it. The hand dropped it at my feet.It said in Its voiceless voice. “Toy” I confirmed. I quickly gobbled up the carrot I was holding and crawled over to the toy. I picked it up. Then dropped it. This toy didn’t make a nice ‘Boing” sound. Maybe you ate this one. I tried to swallow it but my teeth couldn’t break it. Well, I thought, that toy isn’t all that fun. I dropped the toy and pushed it away. It started spinning and making a horrific noise. I jumped away and started running. I stopped and looked back at the toy. It had stopped twirling by now and looked boring. I was just thinking of going back to it when I heard a “ZAP”. A blinding light filled my eyes. For a few seconds I was blind. I went into a state of shock. Then slowly the light began to disappear...
CHAPTER #4 (Tiggy)
I was still standing on the small platform, but I was in a small room. To my left, a large machine, to my right was a pole coming out of the platform. The pole had a red dot on it. I took a closer look at the dot.
I was half an hour old by now and every second my power was growing. The Queen, my mother, had now given birth to two other siblings, one male one female. They were yet to be named. Creatures 1: As life began
Sorry I don't have time today to make a start on raising the 2nd generation to breeding age. I'm in the process of getting contracts organise for a new job (it's even worse than it sounds) and it's eating up too much of my gaming time :D
Previously I've been releasing 'The Shee Chronicles' bit by bit, but today I've got another surprise. Back when I was in year 10 (about 8 years ago now) I started writing a Creatures story. The story was to be called 'The Great Grendel Rebellion', and took place in the Creatures 2 world.
Unfortunately this meant there was no back story, and for anyone reading it who didn't know much about Creatures it could get very confusing. So instead I took the story back to its roots and wrote 'Creatures 1: As life began'. This still wasn't enough to bring the story to where I wanted, and I wrote 'Creatures 2: The restoration of Albia' to bridge the gap between the two stories.
Finally I was able to make a start on 'The Great Grendel Rebellion', the story I initially intended to write. While I was working on that I began to formulate the beginnings of an even bigger back-story, one that involved the Shee and how the Norns, Grendels and Ettins came to be. I made a start on that story too, as it had many ideas that overlapped with 'The Great Grendel Rebellion'. This story was called 'The Shee Chronicles' and was a 'beginnings' story.
8 years on and 'The Great Grendel Rebellion' has yet to be finished (despite being over 60 pages long!).
Reading these stories over the weekend I've come to the conclusion that although they will never be good enough to be published, they are still darn entertaining and I think the community will get a kick out of them. So instead of writing a novel, I've now decided to finish them off as fan-fiction pieces (heck, I didn't even know what fan-fic was back in yr10), which will make writing them SOOOO much easier as I won't need to explain everything as if the reader has never played the game.
So, with that history out of the way the only things I have left to say are:

So, with that history out of the way the only things I have left to say are:
- These stories are 8 years old. It is hardly my best writing (although still not half bad).
- Some parts may be a little confusing as I was trying to explain the world to readers that had never played the game whilst trying to remain true to the game.
- I found the world a little small to contain my story and expanded parts of the world to suit my purposes. It's a bit of a mish-mash.
- I was 16 when I wrote these...there is a lot of blood.
- A few nights ago I started writing 'The Great Grendel Rebellion' again and added 512 words to it. It's not much but it's more than I've done for the past 6 years.
- Enjoy the first entry of 'Creatures 1: As life began'.
PROLGUE
Ah, the
warmth that flowed through my veins, through my entire body. I could
feel the power begin to flow through me, the power that had lain
dormant for over three hundred years. The power of millennia; the
power of those that had come before me was inside me and growing all
the time. The Queen was back and alive, in fact she was more powerful
than ever.
The reign
of terror and order through chaos that had been started by my
predecessors was about to begin again. I would fight in their name
and the name of my species. I was a born leader; I knew this already
although I was yet to come out of my shell. I was to lead my species
to conquer our land.
Once again
I felt the Queen’s mind reach out, her mind merging with mine for
one brief and beautiful moment before subsiding again. Once again the
pictures of the past flew through my head, the story of the last of
our days passing through me again; teaching me of what had happened
and how I would succeed where other’s had failed…
I was in
a strong and capable body, so much different from my real body. I
knew I was tall and strong even though I couldn’t see much of
myself. I could feel my muscles rippling with the thrill of an
oncoming battle. Around me I could hear the running and thumping of
the feet of my brethren, running blindly towards their dooms.
I
stopped for a few seconds to take in the battle around me. Dead
bodies lay all around, their throats cut by my brethren’s sharp,
dagger-like claws. Here and there, there lay the bodies of some of my
fallen comrades, their bones blown apart by devastating explosives.
After the battle there would be the carrion birds that would usually
come and peck at their corpses, taking the eyes first for they were
the easiest meat to get at. Then they would go after the cut wounds,
tearing at the flesh until they had had their fill. For a split
second I almost pitied the poor souls who would still be breathing
when the birds came.
But this
time would be different from the other battles; I had already seen
what would happen.
The
bodies of those still alive around me kept pushing me and I was
forced to continue running again.
I felt
the adrenaline rush through me as I thought of the oncoming fights.
Even though my part of the brain knew it wouldn’t come, the body I
had inhabited didn’t. And the truth was I could hardly remember who
I truly was, I was too caught up in the thrill of it all.
Soon, my
body promised itself, soon we will taste the blood of our enemies!
I was
one of the first to reach the great gates. I slammed into them like a
steamroller. The pathetic wooded gates broke under my enormous weight
and fell beneath my feet and those of the beasts that followed me.
I rushed
into the open courtyard, looking for my first victims. There was no
one in sight. The others pushed forward, ignoring the obvious fact
that something was wrong. The blood was pumping too strongly in their
veins for them to care.
I
sniffed at the air, trying to sense where all of our enemies had
fled. I couldn’t smell any of them and this confused and angered
me. How dare they run when we had gone to all of the trouble of
hunting them this far? We had destroyed everything they held dear and
now we were after the final city they still held. It was meant to be
a beautiful battle full of glory and honour. The final valiant stand
where destinies would be decided.
It was
not to be.
Somewhere
ahead of me I heard a great cry rise above the winds of war. I chased
the voices, drawn by their triumphant echo.
I dashed
into a large and open area, many times wider than the courtyard. So
large in fact I couldn’t see the opposite wall. It was then that I
first felt the unease that something big was to happen. Something
that I couldn’t predict and I couldn’t stop. If these creatures
could build something this great then how had we managed to get the
advantage of them? Surprise maybe? It was hard to believe.
Many
faces were raised to the skies and a great cry of victory was in the
air. I looked up with the masses of faces to see what the fuss was
about. Hundreds of metres in the air I could see spaceships. Our
enemies were leaving? Yes! Our enemies were leaving! We had won!
Another
great cry went up and my vision began to blur.
Suddenly
I was no longer in the great city but traveling across the
countryside. I felt the Queen’s mind pull at mine again and I fell
into this new story.
It was
the same mind I had been in before. The battle had finished several
days ago and now a few of my most trusted friends and I were leaving
the city to move onto the next part of our mission.
Before
his spirit had been taken and locked away our leader had entrusted
upon us the destruction of our enemies great city. Now that we had
taken the city as our own we were free to rescue our leader.
The rest
of my people were staying at the city to protect it from the few
renegades we suspected were still out there and still hoping to
overthrow us. Just in case we had made a tactical error and they were
planning a counter assault while we were in the city.
A group
of seven had left the city to resurrect our fallen leader. When he
became incarnate we would once again be whole and able to serve him.
We were
just out of site of the city, having left it several hundred
kilometres behind us.
The
other six in our group were talking loudly of our victory several
days ago. They were thrilled we hardly had to fight to secure our
triumph. They were cowards.
I on the
other hand had not managed to throw off my cloud of worry. I still
believed there was still something to come. There was no way our
enemies would give up with hardly a fight. If there had been a fight
and hundreds had been killed I would have been happier, at least then
I would know we had won. With the way things had turned out I
couldn’t truly believe we had won because there had been no fight
to speak of.
I felt
it before I saw it. I don’t know how I knew it was there but I knew
it was there all the same. I turned around, my mind working in slow
motion. I looked up at the sky and saw it, the giant ball of light
streaking across the sky. It was moving at an impossible pace, going
from one side of the sky to the other in less than a minute.
It
whizzed over our heads and after a few seconds I heard the roaring it
made. By the time I heard it, it was gone. It disappeared beyond the
horizon line and I knew where it was headed.
I saw
the light the missile made as it hit the city where most of my people
were sleeping. Several seconds later I heard the explosion it made.
Just then I felt the Queen’s mind link with mine again and through
her I heard the howls of horror and death as hundreds of my people
were blown apart. It torn into my head and I could almost feel myself
fall to one knee.
The body
I inhabited didn’t flinch a muscle. It knew what had happened. It
knew the war was now truly over. But the creature who’s mind I
shared was a proud creature. Even though he knew it was all over he
would never admit defeat.
Rushing
over the hills and mountains I could see the tremors running through
the earth followed closely by the debris that the explosion caused.
Still my
body stayed perfectly still. He knew there was no escape this time.
The chaos let lose by our enemies rushed forward and in the last
second before it hit me, I felt my eyes close in final defeat.
My mind
jerked backwards. I was once again in the real world. I had never
managed to discover whether if I died in the dream world whether it
would kill or at least affect me in the real world. I had never
managed to stay in the spirit world long enough to die. I had always
been pulled out just before death claimed me.
The Queen’s
mind had left mine. I was once again alone.
I thought of all I had
encountered in my visions. The one I had just had and the ones before
it. I knew my destiny. I was to lead my people to power over the
Norns. I was to rule Albia in the name of our Queen and those that
had given their lives to get us this far.
I began to
push my way out of my egg, into my world…
CHAPTER
#1 (?)
The first
feeling I had was warmth. It was brilliant warmth. Go to the warmth,
my brain said, go to the warmth. But there was a hard surface between
the heat and myself. I tried to push the surface away, but it was so
hard. I pushed with all my strength. Unless you can remember the
moment you were born (and lets face it you probably can’t) you have
no idea how impossible it is to resist the temptation to get to the
warmth, and what happened next is beyond description. As I pushed at
the egg surface I heard a small ‘Crack’.
Yes, I
thought, It’s breaking. ‘Crack’ it went again. And then CCRACKK
and I was out. The only way to explain what happened next is to say
it’s like being born. There is no other way to describe it. The
sounds and smells were overwhelming! I instantly learned that the
blob on my face (my nose) was for smelling and my flaps on the side
of my head (ears) were for hearing. Oh it’s impossible to describe
what it was like on a piece of paper! And then I discovered a new
muscle, that in my overcome of smell and sound I had overlooked. I
moved this muscle and opened my eyes. Once again it felt like I was
being born. This new sense was 2,3, even 4 times more powerful than
smell or hearing. I looked around myself. There was nothing moving,
not all that interesting. Then, sudden movement. I looked at the hand
that was shaking in front of my face. It was similar to my own hand
but pinkish in colour and there wasn’t any fur on it. As I watched
it, It slowed down to a stop. Then I heard a voice that was more in
my head than in my ears.
[Hand] was all it was said.
“Ond”,
I tried the word. It didn’t sound quite right.
[Hand]
the hand repeated.
“Handa”,
I said.
[Hand]
I listened
more intensely this time. “Hand” I said. Yes, I thought. That
sounded right. The Hand disappeared for a few seconds while I looked
around myself in awe. The Hand reappeared carrying a lump of
something yellow. I stared at the lump. Then the echoing voice in my
head called out [Food].
“Fofo”
I said.
[Food].
“Thood”.
[Food].
“Food”.
The hand
reached down to my nose and gave me scratch. As soon as the fingers
touched my nose I knew I would do just about anything to get another
scratch. Oh, the pleasure, it was wonderful. I let out a high pitched
giggle. I surprised myself!
Then I
looked at the lump I now knew as ‘food’. I picked it up and
looked at it again, then I dropped it. It made a ‘THUD’ sound as
it hit the ground. Well, I thought, that didn’t do much. It didn’t
even bounce. I picked it up again and held it to my ear. It didn’t
make a sound. I smelled it. It had a great smell. I put it in my
mouth. The taste was so powerful, not as good as a tickle but still
nice. I immediately wanted more. I looked around for more ‘food’.
My eyes rested on a round object near a thing that was giving off
heat. I crawled over to the round thing. As I got closer to the
object I heard the hand say [Toy].
“Toto”,
I tried to repeat.
[Toy].
“Toyo".
[Toy].
“Toy”,
I said as I reached the ‘Toy’. The hand reached down to my nose
and gave me a tickle. I was more prepared for it this time but I
still couldn’t stop myself from giggling out loud. I picked up the
toy and tried to take a bite out of it, but it flew from my hands and
bounced on the ground. It made a satisfying “Boing” sound.
Immediately I felt happier and more confident. I walked over to the
round toy and threw it again. Once again it made a boing sound. I
gave a small laugh. The Hand reached down and gave me a tickle. I
continued to bounce the toy for a few more minutes while the Hand
went away to do something. A few minutes later the Hand came back
carrying some more food. This food was long with a point at the end,
it also smelled slightly different. I took a bite out of it. It
tasted different but still good. By now the Hand had delivered
several more ‘food’ at my feet. I quickly gobbled them up. Then I
felt a new feeling. This feeling told me to relax my muscles and lay
down, so I did. Almost immediately I began to doze off. With my mind
wandering over my last few minute of life, I fell asleep.

Creatures 1: Gen2 - Difficult decisions
With the awards night out of the way it's time to move on to bigger and (hopefully) better things. Here we have a collection of 14 Norns, all in their child or youth stage.
Of these 14, only 8 will be able to progress to the next generation; 4 males and 4 females.
To make things interesting, currently we only have 4 females. This means that all of them should make it to the next generation, however I'm going to throw in a wild card. Two of them actually.
From the last feral run I did there are several Norns still left over, two of which are female. To make things more interesting, Beatrice and Tracey will be thrown into the mix. Hopefully this will leave us with a better chance of a stronger 3rd generation.
So here are the 16 Norns, in the order they were born.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Beatrice:
Mother: Lillai
Father: Heartly
Mutations: None. Aside from being adorable Beatrice is an ordinary Norn.
2. Tracey:
Mother: Tabby
Father: Tony
Mutations: 1.
252: Creature, Sensorimotor, limping, chem=Glycogen, thresh=0, nom=43, gain=255, features=Inverted Analogue
252: Creature, Sensorimotor, limping, chem=Glycogen, thresh=0, nom=35, gain=255, features=Inverted Analogue
Aside from this Tracey has inherited a stack of Tabby's Forest Norn genes, including the LOBE mutation that gives her extra neurons.
3.Totem:
Mother: Tabby
Father: Heartly
Mutations: None
Totem inherited a mass of genes from Tabby, making him a strong blend of Forest and Pixie Norn genes. He also has extra neurons.
4.Maramel:
Mother: Trista
Father: Heartly
Mutations: 3.
66: 1*SexDrive++ + 1* => 1*Crowdedness + 1*Punishment; half-life = 8.
66: 1*Crowdedness++ + 1* => 1*Crowdedness + 1*Punishment; half-life = 8.
101: 'Heard creature speak', Sensed Even When Asleep => 16*Boredom-- + 17*Loneliness-- + 16*Crowdedness++ + 0*
101: 'Heard creature speak', Sensed Even When Asleep => 16*Boredom-- + 16*Loneliness-- + 16*Crowdedness++ + 0*
135: 5 0 Emb B MutDupCut Drive i/ps Tiredness + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) and I Rest => 93*<048>
135: 5 0 Emb B MutDupCut Drive i/ps Tiredness + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) and I Rest => 93*Reward
Maramel will have SexDriveIncrease converted into Crowdedness and Punishment.
Upon hearing creatures speak, Maramel will recieve additional LonelinessDecrease
When tired and resting Maramel will not receive reward.
5.Stephanie:
Mother: Pollen
Father: Tony
Mutations: None
Stephanie has a dollop of PMN genes, but other than that is an ordinary Norn with a bit of an adventurous streak.
6. Mayflur:
Mother: Lillai
Father: Heartly
Mutations: 2.
251: 38 0 Chi B MutDupCut Creature, Sensorimotor, tired, chem=tiredness, thresh=174, nom=1, gain=255
251: 38 0 Chi B MutDupCut Creature, Sensorimotor, tired, chem=tiredness, thresh=174, nom=0, gain=255
229: 38 0 Emb B MutDupCut, 2*Antigen3 + 4*Glucose => 1*Antibody3 + 1*Hotness, half-life = 81
229: 38 0 Emb B MutDupCut, 2*Antigen3 + 4*Glucose => 1*Antibody3 + 1*Hotness, half-life = 80
Gene 251 means Mayflur will be chronically tired, although with a value of 1 this won't be noticeable.
When sick with Antigen3 Mayflur will retain the Antibody3 slightly longer in her system.
She is also adorable. Yes, that counts.
7.Maelstrom:
Mother: Trista
Father: Justin
Mutations: 2.
247: Sensoritmotor, in pain, chem=pain, thresh=48, nom=1, gain=239, features = analogue
247: Sensoritmotor, in pain, chem=pain, thresh=48, nom=0, gain=239, features = analogue
151: Drive i/ps Boredom + Drive i/ps Pain + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) 'and I Pull' => 139*Reward
151: Drive i/ps Boredom + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) 'and I Pull' => 139*Reward
Maelstrom will be in chronic pain, although a nom of 1 will barely be noticeable.
Maelstrom will only receive reward for pulling objects when bored and in pain.
He also inherited a LOBE mutation in his Concept lobe. It reduces the max number of connections this lobe can make from 3 to 2.
8. Techie:
Mother: Tabby
Father: Heartly
Mutations: None.
Like his half brothers, Techie inherited a lot of genes from Tabby and seems to have very low drives as a result. He also has extra neurons.
9. Trillo:
Mother: Tabby
Father: Heartly
Mutations: 1.
59: 3 0 Ado B MutDupCut, 1*Hunger++ + 1* => 1*Hunger + 1*Punishment; half-life = 8.
59: 3 0 Emb B MutDupCut, 1*Hunger++ + 1* => 1*Hunger + 1*Punishment; half-life = 8.
This gene won't punish Trillo for being hungry until he hits adolescence.
He also has extra neurons.
10. Javas:
Mother: Pollen
Father: Justin
Mutations: 1.
303: 16 0 Chi B MutDupCut Verb i/ps Left + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) + Drive i/ps Pain and I Left => 255*Reward
302: 16 0 Chi B MutDupCut Verb i/ps Left + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) and I Left => 255*Reward
Javas will receive reward for travelling to the left when he hears 'left' and is in pain.
He also holds the record for most carrots eaten in a single sitting (8).
11. Enza:
Mother:
Father:
Mutations: 1.
91: 2 0 Emb B Mut 'Pointer pats me' => 64*NFP-- + 16*Pain-- + 16*Fear-- + 16*Reward
91: 2 0 Emb B Mut 'Pointer pats me' => 64*NFP-- + 16*Pain-- + 16*Loneliness-- + 16*Reward
Being patted by the Hand will reduce fear in Enza, rather than loneliness.
12. Lentil:
Mother: Pollen
Father: Justin
Mutations: None.
Aside from inheriting the PMN genes, Lentil is an average Norn.
13. Causty:
Mother: Lillai
Father: Heartly
Mutations: 1.
229: 38 0 Emb MutDupCut, 2*Antigen3 + 4*Glucose => 1*Antibody1 + 1*Hotness; half-life=80
229: 38 0 Emb MutDupCut, 2*Antigen3 + 4*Glucose => 1*Antibody3 + 1*Hotness; half-life=80
Causty mutation makes her very susceptible to Antigen3 illnesses, however I've had a Norn with a similar mutation previously that didn't appear effected by it. With what I've learned recently from Naturing::Nurturing I'm not sure how much damage this gene will do.
14. Myles:
Mother: Trista
Father: Heartly
Mutations: 3.
65: 8 0 Emb B MutDupCut, 1*Loneliness++ + 1*Pain => 1*Loneliness + 1*Punishment; half-life = 8
65: 8 0 Emb B MutDupCut, 1*Loneliness++ + 1* => 1*Loneliness + 1*Punishment; half-life = 8
232: 41 0 Emb B MutDupCut, 2*Antigen6 + 1*Glucose => 1*Antibody6 + 3*Hotness; half-life = 80
232: 41 0 Emb B MutDupCut, 2*Antigen6 + 1*Glucose => 1*Antibody6 + 1*Hotness; half-life = 80
108: 19 0 Emb B Mut, 'I am resting' causes sig=1 GS neu=255 int=0, Sensed even when asleep
=> 50*TirednessDecrease + 16*SleepinessIncrease + 16*BoredomIncrease + 0*
108: 19 0 Emb B Mut, 'I am resting' causes sig=0 GS neu=255 int=0, Sensed even when asleep
=> 50*TirednessDecrease + 16*SleepinessIncrease + 16*BoredomIncrease + 0*
Myles will only receive punishment when lonely and in pain, rather than just being lonely.
When sick with Anitgen6, Myles will produce 3 times as much heat while recovering.
Resting is a more significant event for Myles.
15. Jupitor
Mother: Tabby
Father: Justin
Mutations: 1.
242: 22 0 Ado F Mut, 'Invol 1='lay egg'' causes sig=2 GS neu=255 int=0, , , => 190*Pain + 160*Tiredness + 112*Sleepiness + 32*Hexokinase
242: 22 0 Ado F Mut, 'Invol 1='lay egg'' causes sig=0 GS neu=255 int=0, , , => 190*Pain + 160*Tiredness + 112*Sleepiness + 32*Hexokinase
Laying eggs would be quite a signficant event for Jupitor, if he had the capacity to lay them.
16. Bonza:
Mother: Trista
Father: Tony
Mutations: 2.
56: 13 0 Emb B MutDupCut, Creature, Drive Levels SexDrive, chem=Anger, thresh=0, nom=0, gain=255, features=Analogue
56: 13 0 Emb B MutDupCut, Creature, Drive Levels SexDrive, chem=SexDrive, thresh=0, nom=0, gain=255, features=Analogue
136: 5 0 Emb BMutDupCut, Drive i/ps Tiredness + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) and I rest => 93*<048>
135: 5 0 Emb BMutDupCut, Drive i/ps Tiredness + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) + (Lobe/Cell=0/0) and I rest => 93* Reward
Instead of receiving SexDrive when reaching puberty, Bonza will become angry. He has some anger management issues, but he has taken up music as a way to calm himself.
Gene 135/136 makes it harder for Bonza to rest as he doesn't receive reward for doing so.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
